CookSnap
Privacy Policy
Effective July 23, 2026
This policy explains how CookSnap handles information when you use the CookSnap mobile app, recipe-extraction service, support page, and privacy page.
Information CookSnap handles
- Your recipe library. Recipes, ingredients, instructions, collections, preferences, notes, source links, and photos you add.
- Account and sync information. A CookSnap account identifier, authentication data, sync timestamps, and records needed to keep your private library synchronized. If you link Sign in with Apple, CookSnap receives an Apple identity identifier and authentication credentials and, when Apple supplies them, your name and chosen email address. CookSnap does not receive your Apple ID password.
- AI import and suggestion inputs and results. A recipe link, readable page text, an image you choose to import, or for a recipe video a compact audio track and a few selected video frames, plus the structured recipe returned from extraction. The original recipe video remains on your device. When you use pantry suggestions, the ingredient names in your pantry and saved recipes are sent to the AI provider to rank recipes already in your library.
- Subscription information. Product, entitlement, transaction-status, and renewal information. CookSnap does not receive your full payment-card details.
- Notification information. A push-subscription identifier, delivery status, and the CookSnap account identifier used to target a notification when you enable notifications.
- Service and security information. Requests, timestamps, network information such as IP address, error details, and rate-limit or abuse-prevention signals that may be recorded by the service or hosting provider.
- Support communications. The email address and content you provide if you contact support.
How information is used
CookSnap uses information to save and sync your library, extract recipes you request, provide subscription access, deliver requested notifications, answer support requests, protect the service, diagnose failures, and meet legal obligations. CookSnap does not use third-party advertising and does not sell personal information.
Local storage and cloud sync
CookSnap is local-first. Your library is stored on your device so core features can work offline. Private copies are stored with CookSnap’s database and file-storage provider. A new account begins as a guest account and can be linked to Sign in with Apple for recovery on another iPhone. Removing the app normally removes local data, but does not by itself delete an existing cloud account.
AI recipe extraction
When you choose an AI import, CookSnap sends the selected link content or image through its private server to OpenAI to produce a structured recipe. For a saved recipe video, the app keeps the original video on your device and sends only a local audio export and a few selected frames for transcription and recipe extraction. CookSnap marks extraction requests so the response is not stored as an OpenAI application response object. OpenAI may still process or temporarily retain API data for security and abuse prevention under its applicable terms. Do not import content you are not authorized to process.
AI pantry suggestions
When you choose “Suggest for me,” CookSnap sends pantry ingredient names and saved recipe details through its private server to Groq, which uses an open-weight language model to rank recipes already in your library and explain the match. CookSnap does not send this request directly from your iPhone or expose the AI key in the app.
Service providers
CookSnap relies on service providers only as needed to operate the app: Supabase for authentication, database sync, and photo storage; OpenAI for recipe extraction; Groq for pantry suggestions; RevenueCat and Apple for subscription status and App Store billing; OneSignal and Apple for push notifications; and the operator’s hosting provider for the extraction service and public pages. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments.
Retention and deletion
On-device information remains until you delete it or remove the app. Cloud library data remains while the associated CookSnap account is active. You can use Delete CookSnap account in the app to delete the cloud account and cloud recipe library. Operational, transaction, security, and support records may be kept for the period reasonably required for dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and legal compliance. Apple, RevenueCat, and other providers may retain records under their own legal obligations. Some information may also be retained where legally required or after it has been de-identified.
Your choices
- You can add, edit, export, or delete recipes in the app.
- You can link a guest account to Sign in with Apple, recover an existing CookSnap account, or delete the CookSnap account from the Account & recovery screen.
- You can deny camera, photo-library, or notification permission in iOS Settings; affected features will not work without the relevant permission.
- You can cancel or manage a subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information. Contact CookSnap to make a request.
Children
CookSnap is not directed to children under 13, and CookSnap does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child supplied personal information, contact CookSnap so it can be reviewed and removed where appropriate.
International processing and security
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. CookSnap uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, but no storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Changes to this policy
This page may be updated when CookSnap’s features or providers change. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published.
